Old CV

I found an old CV the other day. Compare this to my current one.

Two More Posters

Neither of these are getting used, but oh well. Fun to do nonetheless:

A Film Poster

I do like doing this from time to time, not hard but nice seeing them around. Also big fan of black and white A4, very cheap and no less effective.

A Little Suggestion

Proof that all you really need to do is ask. Finally an email sent whilst pissing around at Barnbrook paid off. Now Creative Characters has all my favourite typographers in it. Well except for Dad's weird friend but I don't really know how to get hold of her.

Jonathan Barnbrook Placement 2

More work from my Barnbrook placement, this time for MyFonts. I was tasked with coming up with new logos for the foundry's presence, which were unified and showed off the fonts at the same time. Banners for the gallery submenu are to come.

A Total Disaster (Fundraiser Party)

Now this really was contentious! Owen Thackeray and I were asked to design a poster for our first year show's fundraiser.

Brief: Disaster!

Timeframe: ASAP (2-3 days or thereabouts)

Result:

Fallout: Well our head of first year, Cathy Gale HATED it. She found it personally offensive and when I showed her Mk.I she simply said "for fuck's sake boris, will you and owen stop going on my facebook?"
Rebecca Wright tactfully explained that to be successful we had to push the terrible design -ness of it much further. I considered doing the whole thing in Crayola but it never got to that stage.

Then there was the rest of the course. Some flat out hated it (luckily people I don't respect) and some wanted an A1 print of it (people I have since worked with and realised are brilliant).

So all in all a great learning tool. Oh and it got voted done in my absence by this:

This was the poster for the actual event at Juno, Shoreditch:

All in all a very interesting project!

However you found me...

Well I hope he enjoyed my work nonetheless :-D

That just made my (very ill) morning.

Selbstportrait

A very old piece this one! A last minute piece for an application to the ZHGK in Zürich (School of Art and Design) - http://www.zhdk.ch/

Dad currently has a large print of this hanging in his office in Zürich, I think he liked it more than the interviewing staff at the ZHGK (I didn't get in!)

Mum's 50th

The Mothership celebrated her 50th year on this planet last April and I designed the invite for it.

It was a bit of a rush job (my fault for not prioritising really). Anyway it did the trick and a fantastic array of friends turned up, some of whom she hadn't seen for ten years or so. It was a really great party.

Publicis Letter

I did a placement last summer in Zürich at Publicis, it was intimidating, hard work, very interesting and great experience to be in a proper, large advertising agency.

I'll find some of the work I did but here is the letter of recommendation I received from the Creative Director Ralph Halder (really really nice guy btw, would love to work for him again).

Sorry it's in German but what can I do? Learn the language.

Jonathan Barnbrook Placement 1

Well I've been there nearly a month now and it's been the best experience I've ever had (work wise!)

Jonathan, or Dr Barnbrook as he insists I call him is a superb mentor, as is Jonathan Abbott (who's a bit closer to my age not that that matters) and Dan Streat is also insanely talented at what he does. Hell they all put me to shame, but that's what I was hoping to see.

Anyway enough waffle, here are 4 ipad wallpapers that are going on http://www.barnbrook.net at some point soon. In chronological order and with name:

[hebetude]

[coalition]
[litmus]
[trident]

They were hard work (and there's about 150 that will never see the light of day, but worth it.

Woo, Propeller site is online!

To conclude the entry earlier / further down the page, here it is!

Ok I have to admit corporate work doesn't look as lovely as creative stuff, but hey it pays the bills (theoretically) and it's what the company wanted. Otherwise they would have something else.

Cheese & Wine

Got asked to knock up a quick poster for the upcoming Cheese & Wine evening here at Skylark.

Tried not to overdo it, think it works pretty well. Bit of wine and lots of cheese. Plus got to use some of my new Avant Garde Alternative cuts.

Summer Placement 1: Skylark Creative

I've been at Skylark all this week and next week too, working on web design and such. So far it's been really exciting work and great people too.

Here's my first piece of work that I'm satisfied with; site design for Propeller Group's Mobile Convention App aka Propeller Mobile.

Let me know what you think.

Second Year Portfolio

Now let's see how far I've come in a year.

I've had a blast this year, and am really satisfied with most of my work. This work has already garnered me two placements this summer.

First Year Portfolio

Hello and welcome to my work blog!

If you're wondering why I have a separate blog for my work, it's to differentiate myself from the work of others and so people don't think I'm trying to pass somebody else's work off as mine (very important).

Well to begin with, let's have a look at my portfolio from first year. Enjoy (and see how much my style has changed)...
